Beijing is the world’s third most populous city proper after Chongquing and Shanghai, and most populous capital city. Beijing is situated at the northern tip of the roughly triangular North China Plain, which opens to the south and east of the city. With mountains surrounding the inland city on three sides, in addition to the old inner and outer city walls, Beijing was strategically poised and developed to be the residence of the emperor and thus was the perfect location for the imperial capital.

The local scenery on the ground is as follows.
